French Football Champions

Football in France didn’t become professional until 1932 which was twelve years after the Federation Francaise de Football Association (FFFA) was formed as a rival to the Amateur ran Union des Societes Francaises de Sports Athletiques (USFSA) which goverened a number of ‘amateur’ sports in the country. The first football tournament under the USFSA was played in 1893 with four teams in Paris participating, winners Standard AC, The White Rovers, Club Francias, CP Asnieres & Cercle Athletique played a simple knockout with International Athletic Club forfeiting their initial tie. 39 years later the birth of professionalism provided a new era for French club football and the Ligue de Football Professional was created with 20 participating teams.
